The Things I Like: Just One

Wednesday, September 27th, 2006

As a counterpoint, here is a commercial I like It’s when she opens her eyes and you hear the “ting”. Brilliant. And when you hear it for the 3rd time. Magic.

Also, this is from my capture card. I was going through my recordings and I found this in last week’s episode of How I Met Your Mother.

The Thing I Hate: A Series

Sunday, September 24th, 2006

You know what commercial I really hate This one,

I hate it so much, I seriously think about turning off the TV. Something the Gap “Fash-on” ads and the VW “Safety Ads” never did.

For one, I don’t like AC/DC. Also the little snippets of dialogue mixed in just make things worse. And, I can’t stand the look of it. It’s so jumpy and cheap feeling.

I’m awake.

Just woke up at 4pm today. Something I haven’t done in quite a long time. See, from the hours of 1am to 8am, I was watching Weeds.

Mary-Louise Parker has the skin of an angel

I had always dismissed it as a gimmick. A show with no real value except for Kevin Nealon getting the munchies, man. You know, like something Fox would air. But after watching 14 episodes straight, I have to say it is a pretty decent show. At times even great. But what really holds the show back is the kids, Nancy’s (Mary-Louise Parker) kids. They’re just so unbelievably annoying. And also the show lacks a real sense of danger. You have a feeling that everything will turn out alright by the end of the episode. I’m not saying someone needs to die or go to jail, but the show just feels too “safe”. Which I understand since it is sold as a comedy first.

So if you haven’t already, give Weeds a shot. It’s definitely a lot better than most of the new Fall shows from the networks.

Smurfs don’t lay eggs!

I have finally found a replacement desktop for the super cute picture of Kristen Bell playing a Nintendo DS,

And yes that was painted by Bill Sienkiewicz.

The Venture Brothers Season 1 DVD was released this week, and I finally finished all the episodes with commentary and the extras. And you know what I got from the commentary, Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer are pretty awesome dudes and apparently double espresso’s pass right through Doc. It’s always nice to know the people who make the cartoons you love aren’t dweebs.

We are in the stickiest situation since sticky the stick insect got stuck on a sticky bun

I just don’t know which show had a better season finale, Battlestar Galactica or Veronica Mars?

I Hate Comcast

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

Well it seems our contract with Comcast is up. Finally!

They want us back for another year and offering our same package for $40/month as opposed to ~$76 month-to-month. But you see, I really, really hate Comcast. If I remember correctly, my parents went behind my back and ordered Comcast while I was out one weekend. They got an amazing deal, ~$25/month for a year. But the service is just awful. They promised new guides, but it hasn’t happened. And changing channels takes forever. It just doesn’t make for a pleasant TV watching experience.

So now it’s time to look around and see what DirecTV and Dish have to offer. I only watch a handful of channels: Comedy Central, History International, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, The Science Channel, and BBC America. The rest are just filler. To get those channels, I’d have to sign up for these packages Dish – America’s Top 180 – $49.99 DirecTV – Total Choice Plus – $49.99 Comcast – Digital Plus – $57.45 You see how much “a la carte” programming would rock. Paying all that extra cash for channels I don’t watch. Also it seems History International and The Science Channel are the most expensive channels. If you drop those off, I can get the next lowest package from all 3.

So now it’s time to start looking through the junk mail…

How to save a life

Wednesday, April 26th, 2006

This season of Scrubs has been hit or miss. You had some good episodes and you had some okay episodes, making for a pretty okay season. Then there was the episode last night, My Lunch. That episode was epic. I don’t think I’ve ever been so affected by a tv show (that close to crying). John C. McGinley should win awards and awards. Dr Cox and Dr House are fighing an ongoing war in my heart for “Favorite TV Doctor”, and last night’s episode really gave the edge to Dr Cox. It’s going to be a very exciting last 4 episodes. So just a reminder, Scrubs is still on. Watch it.

I was thinking of putting a clip up, but it might ruin the episode.

See, not even Jack Bauer can stop the RAV4.

I <3 Fareed

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

Have I mentioned lately how much I love Fareed Zakaria?

He’s by far my favorite regular guest on The Daily Show. The things he says, he should get a medal. He’s just so well-spoken. I should really try to catch his own show, Foreign Exchange.

Fareed Zakaria, will you marry me? If not, can we just hang out maybe? You’ll think about it. Great.

My favorite way to start the week: Falling asleep just after watching Mission Hill

I need to buy that DVD set one day
