This guy, isn’t Steve Jobs. I’m not Steve Jobs either. Where’s my video introduction to the iPhone? Apple needs to correct this, send me an iPhone and I can record one. I have an iSight and everything.

Oh Steve Jobs
Why do you mock me?

Lately, I’ve had an inclination/need to play Civilization/Colonization. It’s been a difficult process. I’ve yet to actually play a full game, but I haven’t given up. I’m going to succeed. And when I do, I’ll probably ruin Civilization/Colonization forever. Nothing better than revisiting a childhood memory and realizing it should’ve remained a memory.
Brilliant
How are they doing this?

Is there some feed that shows when people log in? Friggin’ Myspace
Fun Fact: An elementary school links to my site. Why? I posted a clip from the Daily Show about Myspace.
Walloping Failure
Let’s see what’s going on with Wallop

That’s right, nothing.
Also I love this Textmate plugin, it’s the best thing that ever happened to the “blogging” world. Ever.

Ah, my ridiculously circuitous plan is one-quarter complete!
Hello there, friend. You look bored. Are you tired of the internet? Perhaps MySpace/Youtube has let you down, getting boring you might say. Afterall, you don’t want to end up on Dateline, you sick little paedophile you.
You need a little spice, in the form of massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in a quarantined region of the fictional city of Malton dealing with aftermath of a zombie outbreak. You need a little Urban Dead.
It’s the perfect game. It has that important quality of being easy to pick up and play. And it always leaves you in that “just one more turn” mode. What more could you want from a game that only takes about 5 minutes a day to play.
Anyways, if you do decide to try it out don’t be a Doctor. I picked a Doctor and it’s been hell. I figured in a post-apocalyptic scenario, what could be more awesomer than a man of science, a Doctor. But it’s taking forever to level up.
Also some important links,
- Urban Dead Wiki – For any questions you might have
- Urban Dead Map – You’re going to get lost
If you still haven’t decided to try it out, Urban Dead was even mentioned in the NY Times. I thought that might convince you. Just click here to begin. And if you see rince tragic, watch out. I’ll hit you with an axe and heal you afterwards, for the experience points you see.
Watchout! There’s A Palm In Your Hand!
Palm, not only are they on the losing end of the PDA market, they’re on the losing end of my heart!
See I recently bought a Palm Tungsten C off of eBay. I was super excited when I got it today. I mean a PDA with a thumboard and wireless for $70, that’s a heckuva deal.
But all was not well. Try as I might, I couldn’t connect to the internet. So, I went to update the software, http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/tungstenc/tungstencupdate30.html. Following the instructions, I noticed that my MAC address didn’t match the sticker on the unit.
Seems upon release there was an issue with the Tungsten C losing it’s MAC address. So I contacted Palm. Explained the situation. Waited on hold. And found out it would cost $200 to repair.
That dog won’t hunt, monsignor.
So after discussing with the telephone guys supervisor how much Palm womps, I gave up. They wouldn’t budge. Even pointed out how Apple would honor out of warranty iBooks for logic board problems. So at this point, I’ve contacted the eBay seller and informed him he sold me a bum product.
In conclusion, Palm sucks for not repairing a known issue that’s entirely their fault. The eBay seller, tradingcircuitliquidation (Circuit City’s auction front), is a cock for selling me an item that should’ve been returned to Palm. And Dave Gorman and John Oliver are hilarious.
Look forward to an update on how tradingcircuitliquidation responds. I’m interested and I’m sure you are too.
Note to Self: German’s Love David Hasselhoff…
And Don’t Buy a HP Jornada 680e
The Ultimate Dream, being able to surf the web from the bed/toilet/couch. It’s a dream that I’m sure everyone shares.
I bought the HP 680e in an attempt to fufill said dream on the cheap. I got it off eBay for $50. That’s including a wireless card!
I was excited to install Linux on it, but the Linux distribution, JLime, has broken wireless support. Thus I was boned.
Not giving up and not settling for crappy Windows, I installed NetBSD through much pain and suffering. It was a glorious moment when I got wireless working.
With that out of the way, the next challenge was getting X to work. After getting some help, I got X working.
But you cant really expect someone to use TWM (the default window manager). So I’ve been trying to compile IceWM for the past 3 days and it’s been brutal. If it’s not kernel panics, it’s been the wireless card dropping the connection. It’s amazing how slow the 680e is. It may take weeks, possibly months, maybe years? But I’m so close to realizing the dream.
If only JLime wireless was working, I’d probably be typing this from bed.
So, my suggestion, pass on the 680e for now.
Protip: IR Blaster + Dish 322
Wine + Tiger + FreeNX = WTF
Situation: You’ve installed Wine onto your headless Linux server with the goal of using DVDShrink. Afterall, the server is mostly idle, must use those cpu cycles for good! After following the instructions, you get to the setup portion and what do you see,
But if you connect the server to a monitor, Wine works fine. So what’s the problem?Problem: Seems when using Wine with trusted X11 forwarding, like FreeNX uses, on MacOS X, text isn’t being rendered. I couldn’t tell you the reason, I’m just stating the facts here.
Resolution: Edit the user.reg file in your ~/.wine folder and add these lines,
[Software\Wine\X11 Driver] “ClientSideWithRender”=”N”And problem solved,
