&lt;p&gt;When you have your wipers going fast, they tend to carry and push water radially away from the center of rotation, not perpendicular to the wiper blade as you&#039;d want it to. With your wipers at the bottom of the glass, this causes it to shoot up to your tail. The best setup for SUVs would probably be for the blade&#039;s center of rotation to be at the top of the glass, this way it&#039;d push water mostly downward. But there&#039;s usualy no room to put it at the top since thats a hatch edge that opens away from the rest of the car. Not enough room to hide a wiper setup&lt;/p&gt;
