Well it seems our contract with Comcast is up. Finally!
They want us back for another year and offering our same package for $40/month as opposed to ~$76 month-to-month. But you see, I really, really hate Comcast. If I remember correctly, my parents went behind my back and ordered Comcast while I was out one weekend. They got an amazing deal, ~$25/month for a year. But the service is just awful. They promised new guides, but it hasn’t happened. And changing channels takes forever. It just doesn’t make for a pleasant TV watching experience.
So now it’s time to look around and see what DirecTV and Dish have to offer. I only watch a handful of channels: Comedy Central, History International, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, The Science Channel, and BBC America. The rest are just filler. To get those channels, I’d have to sign up for these packages Dish – America’s Top 180 – $49.99 DirecTV – Total Choice Plus – $49.99 Comcast – Digital Plus – $57.45 You see how much “a la carte” programming would rock. Paying all that extra cash for channels I don’t watch. Also it seems History International and The Science Channel are the most expensive channels. If you drop those off, I can get the next lowest package from all 3.
So now it’s time to start looking through the junk mail…

If I were to get satellite (dish, etc), would it be worth it? Would it have pay per view with new movies and everything? What about Comcast Digital Plus? Does that have pay per view movies?
Yea everything has Pay Per View movies The only thing that Comcast has over the satellite companies is “On Demand” which is useful for when you’re eating and there’s nothing on. Cause really “On Demand” by itself is kinda weak. You only get access to a certain amount of episodes of a show every few weeks (I want to be able to watch the whole season of Venture Brothers all at once).
When I left Comcast with two big middle fingers in the air (Remind me to foward you the emails sometime), I picked up Verizon FiOS in Carrollton. Now they offer on-demand movies, PPV etc. over the fiber optic line, but when I got it I had to select satellite TV also.
Well I got DirecTV and I love it man. The quality is really good and we order PPV movies all the time over the internet, usually for $3-$4 apiece, and it’s billed to the account.
You can also purchase individual channels instead of Comcast, where you have to buy the Oprah package just to get the food network.
