I want the Moon on a Stick

In honor/recognition of me starting my new job, here is The Futureheads – First Day

I’ll be a Technician II at CSC starting on Monday. It’ll be my first real job, something that isn’t retail/part time. The plan is to also start graduate school in January. But it’s easier said than done. There aren’t many 5000 level CSE classes at UTA at night, check for yourself. There are a few that start at 4pm. So really I just have to see, how flexible my schedule is at CSC. Of those available at night, there’s only one course, CSE 5350 COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE II, that interests me.

And even though I haven’t started, I already have all the money earmarked. It’s just who I am. I’ve been broke too long, and I need things. Before buying expensive things, I like to make lists, and that takes a lot of time. The entirety of Friday was spent looking at computer parts and cell phones. With computers, I’m sort of set. Cell phones, I’m shaky. I mean, do I need a phone that can ssh into servers and record video? Not really. I don’t think there was ever a time where I needed to ssh into something in a hurry. If anything, a decent browser would be more useful, using it to compare prices or read reviews on stuff I want to buy, instead of calling Long. And since Opera is available for any phone that has Java now, a good screen is important. Then I have a bunch of other requirements like:

  • Same size or smaller than my SE T610
  • Bluetooth, Compatible with iSync
  • Screen Resolution greater than 128×160
  • VGA Camera or better
  • Large amount of memory or the ability to use some sort of expansion cards
  • Speaker Phone
  • Record Video
  • ~$200

The hardest requirement is the size one surpisingly. You always assume there is always a drive to make things smaller, but apparently it stops at 4 x 1.7 x .7 inches (102 x 44 x 19 mm).

Currently the Sony Ericsson K600i and the K700i are in the lead. They’re both similar to my beloved T610, which I’m replacing mainly because the joystick buttons stick and sometimes the call button double clicks. So when I answer the phone, I immediately put the person on hold. The only problem with the K600i/K700i is that they don’t have expandable memory. Also in running are the Nokia 6670, 6630, 3230, and 7610. The only advantage those Nokia’s have is expandable memory. They’re all giant though, millimeters really add up.

So there you go.

Just let me open up your phone. I’ll even add some features you wanted too, like bluetooth 5.0, 12 megapixel camera, etc etc
