You know the problem with my Windows computer freezing randomly whenever iTunes was playing? It’s not going away. It’s so incredibly annoying. It’s like I’m being tested, just how much crap will this guy take until he flattens and reinstalls. I may waver, tonight I tried the Ubuntu LiveCD. But I will not cave and reformat.
The freezing started happening when I installed the new iTunes 6. That was also the same day that I installed the latest round of Windows patches. I don’t think it’s a hardware problem. I’ve tried various S.M.A.R.T. utilities and they all say everything’s gravy. Right now I’m running iTunes 5, and I still get freezes intermittently. With iTunes 6, it would freeze before the song was over. I noticed the iTunes 5 freezing would occur under heavy disk activity, so I checked the drives out. chkdsk says nothing is corrupt, and like I mentioned, S.M.A.R.T. is fine. I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling sound card drivers, but no noticeable results. And I can’t replicate a freeze under Foobar2k
So really, all that’s left is Windows Updates and iTunes. I’m back at the beginning. GG.
