When Yer 22

It has not been a good week for Apple (in my house). First the Powerbook thing, now iTunes 6 locks up my Windows Desktop. I’m not sure why, but I’ve conducted scientific tests. iTunes 6 => Windows Freezes iTunes 5 => A-OK! Also, talk about a waste of a version number. Apple should be more conservative.

But outside my house, Apple has been doing great. I think their model of selling tv shows, is going to change the (digital) world. I will go on record to say that a year from now, we’re going to see other networks start selling tv shows. May not be through iTunes, but it’s gonna happen. You can feel it.

People like Long are going to poo-poo the idea. But people like Long are completely wrong, and they’re full of hate. They just don’t realize that Apple can’t make a bad move. See iPod Shuffle.

People with satellite and cable (me) have often complained with the way you purchase programming, the whole “bundles” idea. Back with Dish, you had to go up another package level just to get Nicktoon! This idea of paying for what only what you want will definitely spread. Though I won’t go on record and say things will change with satellite/cable in a year.

I didn’t poo poo the idea! In fact, I love it. I just question the pricing of it, is all. In fact I question the pricing of all content, digital or on traditional media. When they made DVDs, they were saying the media cost compared to VHS would be substantially less, and the consumers would save. I think adjusted for inflation, new VHS movies cost the same as new DVDs its comparably priced if not less. Now they have this digital content thing, videos at low resolution. At least with DVDs you get high resolution, extras, and can could play it on any dvd player. With Apple’s ipod video, you can only play it on one player, and its two dollar and episode. So for a complete season consisting of 24 episodes, thats 48 dollars. Compare that to a show’s season DVD. Low resolution, no extras, same if not more cost. I’m not saying its a bad idea, I love it. I just think there’s a bit of price gouging going on. But thats okay, we’re use to that from Apple and people will eat it all up. (Remember those slashdot postings on the eve of the iPod’s virgin release in which people complained that it was too expensive and that no one would buy one) -Long

I hope there’s a digital revolution in the next year. I need their stock to go up so that I can pay for grad school! You’re right though. I was just lamenting about how I can’t watch all of these popular tv programs because of my school and work schedule. If I can just buy them on itunes and watch them on my computer at my convenience, screw tv! Paying $40 for cable that doesn’t even come with the channels I want is worthless.
